German Calypsonian Chako and wife talk about their goals for carnival '95
The first thing that caught everyone's attention when German Kaiso import Chako and his wife, Tina, walked into the SHOWTIME office wasn't the ever present friendly-neighbourhood-smiles, the feeling that the good-doctor looked taller or that his Trini accent was almost perfect; it was his T-shirt, which had the words "There are two kinds of people in the world, Trinis, and those who wish they were", emblazoned on its front.
SHOWTIME: First off, welcome back. What have you done since you were last here?
CHAKO: We went back to Germany in April last year, and then in July we went to New York. They had the World Calypso Monarch Competition, which was organised by Everybody's Magazine. They had selected people from all over the Caribbean, Canada, England and we were picked to represent Germany. I'm Like the Calypso king of Germany, without a kingdom. Thereafter we went to Caribana in Toronto and performed in a Soca Monarch of the World Competition - similar to the competition to New York - but with more Soca-oriented people. We had the best ever performances of "Trini Like You" and placed third. Superblue was first, second was Ajala and we tied with Baron for third.
